Moms Hiring on for Phone Sex Jobs

Times are tough and we are all looking for ways to stretch our budgets these days.  Of course, the best way to make ends meet is to make more money, right?  But for a stay-at-home mom who isn’t a best-selling author, the opportunities for bringing in some extra cash can be rather limited.  Trying to find a flexible, part-time job that fits around the kid’s schedule can be tough.  There’s babysitting.  There’s housecleaning.  And then there’s phone sex operator.

Actually, the preferred term is phone actor and according to Staffcentrix, a company that helps people find work-at-home-jobs, more and more moms are finding it to be the answer to their financial prayers.

While Staffcentrix doesn’t actually place phone actors, CEO Christine Durst tells CNN that they receive plenty of inquiries from moms.  They are generally “sheepish” and even apologetic about their interest, but are clear that they need the money.  And apparently, there’s money to be made for those willing to talk dirty to strangers on the phone.  Durst says most earn between $10 and $30 an hour, more if they are willing to “go further”.

As someone unfamiliar with the phone sex business, I am not sure just what “further” means.  After all, it’s all talk.  Or text.  Durst says some moms are signing up to be sexters – basically getting paid to do what so many teens are getting in trouble for doing:  Sending risque text messages.

I don’t begrudge a mom for doing what she has to do to help her family and, surprisingly, neither do most of the husbands of these women.  Durst says most of the moms she talks to claim their husbands are supportive of their phone sex ambitions and figure if it’s something they are good at, they may as well get paid for it.

I don’t believe I would be any good at this job.  I have no doubt that I would be giggling at all the wrong times and be fired soon enough.  What about you?  Could you make it as phone sex operator?  And would your husband be okay with it?
