Man, what is going on over there in Iran? Here are a few headlines:
- “Biden expresses ‘doubts’ about Iranian election”: doubts about its “validity,” according to CNN. I like how he says he has doubts about the election results but, you know, doesn’t want to comment. Um, dude? Mr. Veep guy? That is a comment.
- “Iran’s president declines to guarantee safety of defeated rival Mir Hossein Moussavi” (CNN)
- “Canada says it is worried about reports of irregularities in Iran’s election”: OH! Well if CANADA is worried, that’s very serious! (also CNN)
All kidding aside, this isn’t funny at all. Not sure what sort of outcome would be considered positive in this case.
Here on the home front, Six Flags has declared bankruptcy. Now they’ll have a not-so-Great Adventure (see what I did there?) trying to figure out a way to reorganize and stay in business. As Ellis Henican put it via Twitter: “Add a 7th flag, please — a white one.”
NASA hopes to launch the shuttle Discovery on Wednesday. I remember when a shuttle launching was a major thing. We would talk about it in school. People were interested. Now it seems like the attitude is, “Eh. Another shuttle launch. What’s Brangelina up to these days?” Too bad.
More space news from Discovery.com: “Tiny moons embedded in Saturn’s ring system create gravitational speed bumps that redirect the flow of particles in the otherwise flat rings, new findings from the Cassini spacecraft show.” I think this stuff is cool.
Article from the BBC about the fake Rockefeller guy who kidnapped his daughter. I would love to get inside the head of a person like that. Fascinating, in a disturbing way of course.
And finally, CIA head honcho Leon Panetta thinks that Dick Cheney… well, here’s the quote: “It’s almost, a little bit, gallows politics. When you read behind it, it’s almost as if he’s wishing that this country would be attacked again, in order to make his point.” The Pan Man was talking about Cheney’s endless drumbeat of criticism directed at President Barack Obama regarding the interrogation of suspected terrorists. Rough words, Leon. Be interesting to see what the Hive Mind has to say about this.
