A British psychiatrist and author says that moms who employ nannies are setting their sons up for a life of secret trysts, office hook-ups and embarrassing voicemails left for women with funny names.
Boys who are cared for by nannies, Dr. Dennis Friedmans says, are at a greater risk for becoming serial womanizers.
In his book, The Unsolicited Gift, Friedman claims that when moms delegate childcare to a nanny, the notion of The Other Woman is burned in a little guy’s brain. He’ll always think that some woman — other than his wife(/new mommy?) — will cater to his basic needs.
What a relief. Tiger Woods can stop blaming himself!
Rather than being serial womanizers, baby girls are condemned to a life of filling an emotional vacuum with sex and drugs.
The 85-year-old Friedman tells the U.K. Telegraph that women who employ nannies won’t like what he has to say, but that babies have a right to be “100 percent connected” with their mothers. Bringing in a nanny, though, “creates a division in his mind between the woman he knows to be his natural mother and the woman with whom he has real hands-on relationship: the woman who bathes him and takes him to the park, and with whom he feels completely at one.”
Because everyone knows 100 percent connected means in the baby’s face 24/7.
The doctor offers no evidence for his claims. Maybe just a gut feeling? A little emotional vacuum of his own?
If you absolutely must get a nanny, the good doctor says, wait until the child turns 1.
So if you really love your children, you know what you’ve got to do: fire the nanny. Nothing personal!
