Nice Guy Finishes Last — On Purpose: Teen Track Champ Throws Race to Aid Injured Rival (VIDEO)

You gotta be in it to win it, but clearly winning isn’t all that matters.

High schooler Meghan Vogel won the Ohio state track title for the 1600 meter race on Saturday, but another race in which she placed last is garnering even more attention. She was participating in the 3200 meter race when a competitor from another team, Arden McMath, fell down to the ground just shy of the finish line. Instead of running past her to finish, Meghan lifted her up and all-but carried her across the finish line, actually letting Arden finish ahead of her. Meghan finished 15th in a field of 15.

“If you work to get to the state meet, you deserve to finish no matter who you are. I was going to make that happen for her no matter what,” Meghan told WDTN News, according to The Huffington Post.
