Out of the Mouths of Babes: Laughing at Our Hilarious Kids

By carolyncastiglia |

kids say the darndest things, funny kids, funny things kids say

Funny bunnies.

There’s a great feature up on Babble’s Kid channel called Funny Things Kids Say: Summer Edition highlighting hilarious quotes from readers’ children.  Any parent knows 3-, 4- and 5-year-olds are some of the best people to be around if you need a good laugh.  I’ve been laughing non-stop since Saturday, when my 5-year-old came back from her 3-week vacation with her Dad.  I keep smiling and chuckling to myself every time she opens her mouth, because I’m always in awe of her creative turn of phrase.  I like to chronicle her wisdom on my Facebook page, and I even have (a sort of abandoned) Tumblr of some of her best gems.  Last night after she went to bed, I came across this video interview I conducted with my daughter when she was 3, and I think it’s one of the greatest, most delightful bits of film on the web.  It really captures the essence of the wild toddler mind and shows all of the facets of her brilliant personality.  I hope you have a similar clip of your kid, and that you’ll enjoy mine!

She is an absolute doll. So expressive for a 3-year-old!

  2. Jenny says:

Soo cute! Here’s one of my daughter, age three at the time, being interviewed as The Tooth Fairy. She also finishes it up with “The End.”

Okay, the whole thing is hilarious, but my favorite part is when you ask her why she was at the hospital and she looks down and says, kind of shamefacedly, “I stuck a bee up my nose.” Priceless!!

Jenny – love the bit about the bee and the pollen – so funny! Whatevs – she actually stuck a bead up her nose, and I forgot all about it until I ran across this video again. It was one of those big beads that they make so that toddlers can string them, so it was too big for me to get out at home. I was terrified she was going to snuff it up into her brain (I don’t often get accused of being too calm or subtle – or of knowing how human anatomy works) so I took her to the emergency room, where a kindly nurse suggested I could avoid a $1000 ER visit fee by allowing her to perform the surgery in the triage area with a paper clip. Voila, the bead came out, my daughter got a popsicle, we all left happy.

Ah! The classic bead up the nose. That makes more sense.

    So cute!
