Parenting FAIL: Couple Stuffs Baby in Bag in Attempt to Smuggle Child into the United Arab Emirates

By SunnyChanel |

The Baby Smugglers

No one likes red tape, especially when bureaucratic rules and requirements throw a whole wrench into the works. But there are times when you should just give up and not try to fight the power. Take this couple from Egypt who were traveling with their 5-month-old son: they should have just followed protocol, but instead they did something very stupid. They stuffed their baby in a bag and put him through the airport’s x-ray machine.

What led them to do something so idiotic?

According to the Gulf News, the family arrived at the Sharjah International Airport in the United Arab Emirates on Saturday morning but did not have a visa for their baby. Customs officials told them they would have to wait until the next day to clear that matter up. Instead, the couple took a piece of their carry-on luggage, put their baby inside, zipped the bag up and put it through the x-ray machine at security. Of course, the screener saw that there was a baby inside and the couple got busted.

Not only was it a dumb move to think that their baby would go through customs undetected, but putting him through the x-ray machine is a big no-no in itself. “This machine is very dangerous for anyone, let alone a baby in a bag to pass through,” a police official said. The couple was arrested on charges of child endangerment and “infiltration.”
