Parents: Beware The Ides Of March

By Monica Bielanko |

Et tu, Brute?

Did you know that tomorrow is the Ides of March?  That’s, like, a full moon times 100!

Bad juju, y’all.

So knock on wood and throw some salt over your shoulder or whatever you gotta do.

The Ides of March happens every year on March 15.

Wondering exactly what the Ides of March is all about?  Here’s a little summary courtesy of about.com:

March 15 is a date known as the “Ides”, and has gained notoriety thanks in no small part to the assassination of Julius Caesar. William Shakespeare immortalized the date in his play about the Roman emperor, and features a soothsayer cautioning everyone to “Beware the Ides of March.” The Ides are actually sacred to the god Jupiter, and so some members of Religio Romana still celebrate the Ides today.

Caesar was warned a bunch of times to keep a look out because something bad was going to happen and he didn’t pay attention.  And look what happened!

If that inspires you to teach your little ones about Shakespeare, check out Introducing Your Children To Shakespeare.  But listen up parents!  The Ides of March are not to be trifled with.  Sure the whole Caesar thing happened a long time ago, but March 15 is just generally thought to be a foreboding date.  Don’t attempt any great feats of parenting tomorrow, is all I’m saying.  Because the Ides  just may open its yawning maws and bite you in the backside.  If you’re superstitious, that is.

So all I’m saying is keep a good lookout, mom and dad.  Don’t pull a Julius Caesar and ignore my warning.  Consider me your personal soothsayer.  Tomorrow just might be the day junior markers up your bedspread or poops in the toy box and doesn’t tell you about it.
