Playdate: A Visit to the Momasterytoddler-times
It’s been awhile since we took a trip to a cool parenting blog for a playdate here on Strollerderby, so when a friend’s Facebook linked out to a site containing what she thought was some cool mom poetry, I figured it was time to take a gander.
The poetry in question was actually guest post by my FB friend’s sister and indeed very cool, but the profile info along the side of Momastery’s blog post is what pulled me in: “I chose ‘Momastery’ because a monastery is a sacred place, apart from the world, where a seeker retreats to figure out what matters and catch glimpses of God. That’s exactly what motherhood is like to me. It’s also exactly like being slowly pecked to death by merciless chickens.”
I’m not exactly religious. But merciless chickens? Oh, oh, this I had to read.
I scrolled down to the bottom of Momastery – searching for a way to get back to the root of the blog, and stumbled across a little gem describing the “monkees,” her name for her followers (and one of my favorite’s for my child). It put my qualms about religion and my take on the blog at rest:
“Monkees are too consumed with loving people to bother judging them. Monkees are too busy singing songs of redemption and sorrow and joy to put anybody down. That’s our official motto. Our unofficial motto is this: We are trying very hard not to be jerks.”
Those there are words to live by. At times funny, at times probing and often very personal, it’s worth a read.
So go check out Momastery, and tell us – what’s a new blog you’ve found on one of your playdates?
