Project Runway's Tim Gunn Gives Barbie's Wardrobe a Make Over
I vividly remember receiving my very first Barbie doll as a child. She came dressed in pajamas without any extra clothes and I recall wondering what the hell I was supposed to do with a doll that was wearing something fit for nowhere but a night in or maybe a trip to her local Wal-Mart.
I can’t remember what her name was, though I’m sure it was something predictable like Pajama Barbie, and she quickly became the outcast when my other, more ambitious, Barbies arrived on the scene. You know the ones. Pilot Barbie, Doctor Barbie, Firefighter Barbie — Barbies that were actually doing something with their lives instead of loafing around in their pajamas all day.
I owned more than a dozen, but even the most prized doll in my collection pales in comparison to most of the Barbies I find in the toy aisles while shopping for my daughter. Barbie’s flair for fashion is really spot on these days. Maybe that’s because she receives help from people like Tim Gunn of Project Runway fame.
Gunn recently styled two dolls for the Barbie Collector series and suddenly my 3-year-old daughter is an excellent excuse for why I need to own these. The dolls plus their accessory pack come with everything from buckled booties to a houndstooth scarf. They even have their own snappy handbags complete with smartphones. That Tim Gunn thinks of everything.
The dolls will be available for purchase for $30 each in Target stores this August or on barbiecollector.com.

I love them. While they do have Barbies with careers now the majority are tramps. The extra clothes they have available are sooooo skanky. When I bought my daughter her first barbie I had a really hard time finding her something that didn’t scream Hooker Barbie.
I remember buying extra clothes for my Barbies. I distinctly remember they were lingerie. One was black lace leggings and matching bra. And that was the early 90′s!

Barbie looks amazing, typically I avoid buying my daughter Barbies not because of the body but because the majority of the clothing makes her look like a prostitute.
