Less then two weeks after a major recall on Dorel-manufactured car seats, now it’s a quarter million play yard/bassinet combos being called back due to a hazard to the babies sleeping inside them.
The company made play yards under the Disney and Eddie Bauer names that the Consumer Product Safety Commission has deemed unsafe. According to the CPSC release to the media, ” one piece metal bars supporting the floorboard of the bassinet attachment can come out of the fabric sleeves and create an uneven sleeping surface, posing a risk of suffocation or positional asphyxiation.”
The portable play yards involved in the recall incorporated both a changing station and a bassinet, and they were sold at Babies “R” Us, Kmart, Sears, Target and Walmart from January 2007 through October 2009 for between $100 and $130. Sold under the names Safety 1st Disney Care CenterTM Play Yard and Eddie Bauer Complete Care Play Yard, the model numbers included in the recall are: 05025, 05026, 05037, 05088 and 05350.
If your baby’s sleeping inside one, the CPSC suggests removing them immediately before calling the Dorel Juvenile Products Corp. for a free repair kit. Call 866-762-2166 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. ET Friday.
