BABBLE BEST - MOMMY BLOGGERS
Mommy bloggers make a difference. Sometimes it's their confessional tone that helps you feel like you're not the only one, sometimes their simple honesty puts you at ease, and sometimes they're so funny, you almost snarf your protein shake. There are the bloggers we relate to and there are others we watch like a train wreck, but no matter where we're coming from, we're all part of the same overwhelming, magical situation.
That's why we're dedicating the inaugural Babble Top 50 list to those who know best: moms. Babble staff and contributors compiled our top mommy-blogger picks based on the following criteria: most controversial, funniest, most confessional, best design, most useful and best written (though we left off Babble's own mommy bloggers because, as with our own kids, we couldn't possibly pick a favorite). These are our picks, but we're sure you'll have something to say on the matter, too.

Jessica Gottlieb | Jessica Gottlieb
Named a “Power Mom” by the Nielsen Company in 2008 and 2009, Jessica Gottlieb has the #1 Los Angeles blog in the Facebook Network and averages 25,000 unique visitors each month. But popularity alone won’t get you on our list. Through her tag line, “Wife. Writer. Mother. Friend,” Gottlieb asserts that she should be known by her accomplishments and relationships, and not just as “mom” or “mommy blogger.” In the first line of her bio, she writes “women are bright,” an assertion which both puzzled and intrigued us - we weren’t aware that needed saying. Neither sincerity nor sarcasm reign supreme on Gottlieb’s blog; instead she’s crafted a mix of both, whether she’s taking down Ann Coulter, or offering savvy advice for mommy bloggers and lay people in Tech Talk Tuesdays.
We give her further props for her frankness about the mommy blogger industry and about their complicated relationship with the marketing biz. We know most of the mommy bloggers on our list would be psyched if Gottlieb’s rant Mommy Bloggers are not the Indentured Servants of the Marketing World was required reading for PR people.

Jessica tells it like it is – both the good and the bad, and that’s why I love her.
If bullying, harassing and threatening other women on Twitter is what it takes to be on this list….NO THANKS!

Oops k see you changed it. Finally. Thanks. Jessica
free press and you’re gonna act like a b? take her off the list
I am not a regular reader of her blog. I find her whiny and without a cohesive point of view. Her momversation appearances make me want to punch her in the head.
Ugh.
Well, guess Babble won’t be making this mistake again next year.
I admire Jessica a great deal. She has such natural leadership and organizational skills, which she uses to support causes that she truly believes in. The only people who think she is b*tchy are those that have to come up against her, and that’s because they invariably lose. Thanks Babble, for recognizing a terrific woman!
My first encounter with Jessica was when we were “pitted” against one another at a Dr. Phil taping. I’ve since familiarized myself with her writing, esteem, and perspective and only the elitist mentality will keep you from appreciating her confidence. She covers her ass even when she’s mooning you.
Lemme get this right – Jessica is a bitch for protecting the copyright of the photographer? Because it’s not just hers, the photo has a shared copyright. It would have been easy for her to let it slide, but she stood up for someone who isn’t known in the Mommyblogging community.
One of the reasons I love Jessica and respect her is because she’s willing to stand up even when it’s not pretty or convenient or can land her on the chopping block. The reason I read her is because she has guts and she stands behind her words. She’s one of the few Mommybloggers I read regularly.
That last comment was by me, because I don’t hide behind anonymity (but I do confess to forgetting to sign my comments.)

So they replaced a really unflattering photo with a somewhat more flattering one? Is that what happened? Because I would threaten to sue too if someone posted a picture of me looking like hell and wearing rubber gloves.
Hi, I read a couple of the mommy bloggers in the list, and it’s great to see that you’ve included Jessica Gottlieb here!
I, too, enjoy her mix of sincerity and sarcasm. I also dig how she includes photos from iPhone Gran it sort of completes the cycle in cyber practice she’s a mom looking at motherhood and relationships and technology in her posts, but her blog itself is nurturing and supportive of her own mother’s ventures in tech.

No, Jessica is a bitch for doing it here, in public, when she could have made a phone call or sent an email. But who is really surprised?
I sent it a number of times via email, but they didn’t sense the urgency. Not a bitch. Just a content owner. – Jessica
Seriously? Why get upset because of what she posted in regard to copyright issues? She has a right to protect her copyright just like anyone else. She said she e-mailed them and nothing changed until she wrote her comment here; no big deal. Dubbing her as a ‘bitch’ is ridiculous. It’s not as if she said, “Okay they’re not answering my e-mails so I’m going to have to initiate a lawsuit”. Instead, she posted it here and that’s when they responded. Now both parties are happy. Furthermore, to those who are making irrelevant comments – it wasn’t about you. Congrats to Jessica for the mention! She’s one of the few I know on the list

Awesome list, Babble. I have had the pleasure to read and meet several Mommy Bloggers over the last several months and Jessica is by far one of my favorites. Smart, funny and (from the comments below) controversial, Jessica brings wit and candor to her blog and to her life. I fully support difference of opinion but to call someone a “bitch” and then hit send is cowardly. Disagree with her all you like but at least she stands up for what she believes in and signs her name to it. It’s been my experience that we tend to put up the most resistance to things that we don’t like about ourselves. I invite all the “bitch” slingers to look in the mirror and figure out what’s really going on. Your visceral have been triggered by Jessica but really have nothing to do with her. – Jeff Rago
No need for smear tactics or playing the bitch card, folks. Jessica is a fantastic woman, mom, blogger, and friend. End of story.
Jessica Gottlieb makes me laugh every single day. She is is snort out loud hilarious but also not afraid to tackle tough issues (her own and others). She’s got a big heart and is quick to rally her many fans to help any mom that needs it.
If you can’t handle her snark, don’t read her, but you would miss an awful lotta funny, poignant, sweet stuff too.
Not hiding, name didn’t post. xx @lpearson
