It looks like sexist pigs are still alive and well in our political arena.
Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh resorted to demeaning and sexist name-calling in response to Georgetown Law School’s Sandra Fluke’s assertion that birth control should be covered by health insurance at religious institutions. He then proceeded to attack her morality and her family’s parenting skills in raising such a ‘promiscuous’ woman in his latest misogynistic remarks.
Fluke is a 3rd year law student who testified that contraception can cost a woman as much as $3,000 during law school without insurance coverage.
Here is a just a part of his sexist (and ridiculous rant):
What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She’s having so much sex she can’t afford the contraception.
Can you imagine if you’re her parents how proud of Sandra Fluke you would be? Your daughter goes up to a congressional hearing conducted by the Botox-filled Nancy Pelosi and testifies she’s having so much sex she can’t afford her own birth control pills and she agrees that Obama should provide them, or the Pope.
He then proceeded to lash out at Georgetown Law School, a Catholic institution: “Well, I guess now we know why Bill Clinton went to Georgetown and why Hillary went to Wellesley. Well, all the sex going on at Georgetown.”
Now we all know Limbaugh has been a laughable character for years now but does he even believe the nonsense that spews from his mouth anymore or is he just looking to gain some publicity? His rants seems asinine even for the most staunch conservative. If his premise is that only loose (and by his reasoning, immoral and embarrassing) women engage in sexual activity, then what exactly do you call the men that these women are having sex with? Oh, that’s a whole different story. Old boys club to the end. How many men are willing to give up their sexual lives so they will not be promiscuous? Does that make every man a slut, too?
Medically speaking, I suppose the girls and women who require birth control to help relieve painful and irregular periods should just suffer rather than expect their employer to provide health insurance that will help them lead a healthier life.
Yes, it was still is 2012 the last time I checked. The days of men being able to slut shame women, especially in a public arena need to be over. Of course, shaming and incoherent reasoning work best when you have no real argument to back up your position.
Like my grandmother always said, “empty barrels make the most noise”, and boy, is Limbaugh loud.
