Scenes from Our Christmas: The Cheapest Toy Is Always Their Favorite

Ivy's favorite Christmas gift, a dollar store wand.

I always try to remind the grandparents that there’s no need to spend a lot on the kids or buy several gifts because the plastic gold wand with streamers from the dollar store will totally end up being the only thing she will want to play with. One of these days I better take my own advice.

Despite my oldest son asking Santa for an iPad, he seemed to have an awesome Christmas and loved his new bike. But his favorite gift of all? A Diary of the Wimpy Kid action figure. I am not even joking. Squinkies and Trash Packs were also all the rage on Christmas morning and are exactly what they are still playing with today. Oh, and those grow-in-water capsules from Target’s $1 bins — um, I mean left from Santa in their stockings. And my three-year old daughter’s favorite of all is of course that golden wand. Alas, the bigger-ticket items have been left under the tree. It was a great Christmas.

Enjoy some scenes from our holiday below.

The only gift I opened on Christmas was an origami flower made by Carter. I love it. (And it's okay, because instead of getting each other gifts, my husband and I will be paying Carter's emergency room bills from the night before...)

Grayson couldn't wait to see if the reindeer ate the special food he sprinkled on the lawn Christmas Eve.

Ivy's favorite gift is definitely her magic fairy princess wand she got in her stocking at Mimi's.

I finally got them all to stand still in front of the camera. It was a great Christmas despite a trip to the ER and lice the night before. Now I'm really looking forward to them staying home for the next couple weeks! Hope you had a great holiday!
