Beyonce can keep her ring.
The girls (and boys) at Milwaukee’s HOPE Christian School are working for something else: Straight As in school.
Watch their version of Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” below:
They’ve got gloss on their lips, books on their hips, and they care abuot 2016.
According to HOPE’s website and a report in the Chicago Tribune, the video started as part of a school-wide talent competition, but it’s is already gotten over 300,000 hits on YouTube. (The kids are hoping for a million.)
“It inspires kids to see it’s cool to be smart and reach goals,” Charmaine Taylor, one of the backup dancers in the video, told the Chicago Tribune. “I want other people to know you can do anything if you just put your mind to it.”
The group is getting a kick out of the attention their video has gotten — teacher Megan Huff says they secretly hope Beyonce herself will check it out — but the fame isn’t going to their heads. Huff told the Chicago Tribune: “….We are trying to keep our heads on straight and stay focused on academics even with this attention we’re getting.”
Keep up the hard work, kids!
