Search for Ann Pettway, Suspect in Carlina White Kidnapping
Ann Pettway, suspected of abducting sick baby 23 years ago.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is searching for the woman who authorities think may have been involved in the abduction of Carlina White. White is the 23-year-old who was recently reunited with her biological family after she was taken from a New York hospital when she was only 19 days old.
A search is underway for Ann Pettway in connection with White’s abduction. Pettway, who raised White, is currently on parole in North Carolina for embezzlement.
The story of White, who was raised with the name Nedjra Nance is tragic. She had been taken to Harlem Hospital as a newborn when she developed a high fever. Her parents had gone home to get some rest and left the baby to recover at the hospital. When they returned, she was gone.
White had long thought that something about her life didn’t make sense and that, at the very least, she had been adopted. Her mother, Pettway couldn’t produce a birth certificate, which the girl had found suspicious.
Pettways relatives told the New York Daily News that their family often joked about the fact that she and Pettway looked nothing alike. They had always suspected that she hadn’t given birth to the baby girl.
White was reunited recently with her mother and father and her father’s family.

I have been reading these articles about the cold case of the abduction of Baby Carlina White who was kidnapped as a 19 month old baby from Harlem Hospital on Aug. 4, 1987. I wonder what Ann Pettway was thinking when she took this child and ripped apart a family with a newborn infant? Now that makes me wonder. I have always wondered why new mothers are always so suspicious of people who make nice comments about their newborns. Now I see why they are so uncomfortable with people making kind gestures about how sweet their babies are especially when someone like Ann Pettway kidnaps and abducts a baby from a Hospital posing as a nurse. It would have been nice if the Pettyway family members knowing that Ann Pettway may have not been pregnant knowing that the baby Carlina in fact was not her own child and didn’t resemble her why they didn’t contact the authorities concerning a baby who didn’t even look like her allow her to even keep someone else’s child that wasn’t even her own? Tell me something, I want to know why someone didn’t come forward before now and alert the authorities of the fact that she had been harboring this missing child for all of these years. Someone needs to hawk up some answers for the rest of the public to know now that everything is in the open. I think that you all owe an apology to the family of Carlina White. I think that you all owe her parents Joy White and Carl Tyson and the rest of their family more than an apology for Ann Pettway’s actions of taking a child that didn’t belong to her. I pray that the Lord let her be found and brought to justice and prosecuted under the law. You as a family knew better and should have done something sooner than now. It is a very dishearting story when someone kidnaps a baby and then lie to the child for many years without telling the child the truth. Children know when people are telling the truth and when they are not telling the truth. You all really need to come to grips and think about what you all have allowed Ann Pettway to continue to lie to Carlina White for all of those 23 years of her life in which she and her biological family can never ever replace. None of you all need to even think that she will always be apart of your family knowing that she didn’t belong to your family in the first place. She was taken and torn apart from her biological family and that can’t be relived and all of that, but, you all can certainly and should have certainly come up with the truth when you all knew that it was a bunch and pack of lies being told to that child. I hope that you all will really think about what your family member Ann Pettway has caused the family of Carlina White for 23 years. All we the public, people around the world are asking that you all give Carlina White and her family the much needed time to heal from the many years that they have lost and let them have their privacy.
