Nothing Hotter Than a Family Man

Today People Magazine declared Ryan Reynolds The Sexiest Man Alive 2010, but as far as I’m concerned, my husband should win the title.

What’s sexier than a man who takes care of the kids, vacuums and cooks dinner?

Seriously, after more than 12 years together, we still act like newlyweds around each other. It helps that we’re still attracted to each other physically. More than physical attraction, the bond between has only grown closer since having kids and raising them together.

Women often joke about “choreplay,” saying that nothing is sexier than when a man helps out around the house. Surprisingly, research backs up this claim.

Wives are more likely to get in the mood when men help out with the housework, according to research conducted by Dr. John Gottman at the University of Washington.

How can that be? Scientists who have conducted research on domestic chores suggest that wives see men as more loving and caring when they contribute to the housework. Therefore, they find them more sexually attractive. Also, on the practical side, if a man is helping around the house, his wife might be less stressed and therefore more open to a little romance.

Clearly, I’m not alone in feeling passionate towards someone who helps with the housework.

Have you seen the humor book “Porn for Women,” which features fully clothed men cooking and cleaning? It’s been such a hit that it’s spawned a calendar and the sequel “Porn for New Moms.”

Heather Peterson, who worked on both “Porn” books told MSNBC:

When a man is willing to step up to the plate — and wash it for you — you’re going to think about him in a very different way. It’s not just that he’s domesticated. It’s that he recognizes that these things have to get done. That they’re not just automatically going to be done for him. And that’s hot.

Women also feel more amorous about men who actively participate in their children’s lives. Watching my husband help my daughters build a Lego house, it’s hard not to notice how patient and caring he is with them. Also, because he’s such an involved parent, it takes some pressure off of me.

Sure, my hubby goes to the gym and takes good care of himself. But nothing is more attractive than the sight of him preparing a delicious dinner for me and the girls. Can Ryan Reynolds cook and clean? If not, I’ll stick with my guy!

What about you? Do you find your husband more attractive when he helps out around the house? Will you nominate him for Sexiest Man Alive 2011?

For the record, I don’t plan to show my husband this post. I don’t want it to go to his head. Meanwhile, to embarass him further, go check out of my guy on Strollerderby’s new Tumblr.

I LOVE IT! Yes, yes and yes. My husband stepped up and became the primary parent of our house when our second child was born. He took care of a 2 year old and a newborn when I went back to work in a guilt-ridden mess, and remained the primary parent until both of our kids were in elementary school. And he did it with grace and calm and joy. Ladies, there’s absolutely NOTHING sexier than that!
