It’s the list for which many expectant mothers have been waiting. At least, the expectant mothers who are determined for their baby to have a name that doesn’t require that it be coupled to their last to differentiate them from the half dozen others of the same name in their classroom.
This morning the Social Security Administration released its list of the top 100 most popular names in the year 2011 and, once again, it appears that pop culture has invaded our brains.
While the list of girl names is much of the same, the name Mason on the boys’ list claimed the number two spot, bumping Anthony from the top ten. Is it a coincidence that Kourtney Kardashian of reality television fame named her son Mason in 2009 and that the name has been climbing the charts ever since?
It’s seems unlikely that the sudden jump in popularity is due to a massive number of mothers who long to pay tribute to the Kardashians, but it is not a stretch to believe that some became aware of the name through the famous family and simply loved it as well.
Check out the rest of the list below.
