We’ve all heard that milk is good for your bones, builds muscle and that, as the Milk Advisory would like you believe, “it does a body good.” But reportedly there is a new study that is adding another benefit to being a milk drinker. It apparently may boost your brain power and your memory.
The study was featured in the International Dairy Journal. The study was performed at the University of Maine where they tracked 900 subjects from ages 23 to 90 and found evidence that those who drank milk were more likely to do better on their “tests.” The Medical Daily reported that the milk drinkers, “scored significantly higher on memory and other brain function tests, which included visual-spatial, verbal and working memory tests.”
Did you know that the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend that we drink three glasses of low fat or fat free milk a day? “Whether in a latte, in a smoothie, on your favorite cereal, or straight from the glass, milk at breakfast can be a key part of a healthy breakfast that help sets you up for a successful day.”
Right now the only milk drinker in the house is our kindergartener, but seeing this new study, I think I’m gonna have to pour myself a great but glass too.
