Susan Powell’s Dad Feared That Josh Would Harm Himself and the Kids

By Sunny Chanel |

The Powell Family in Happier Times

It’s a tragic end to a sordid tale. Over the weekend, Josh Powell allegedly killed his two young sons and himself in what looked like a murder suicide at his home in Tacoma, Washington.

Josh Powell had been a person of interest in the disappearance of his wife Susan Powell after she went missing two years ago.  Their two sons Charlie, 7, and Branden, 5, were living with Susan’s parents and Josh had been battling in court to regain custody of them.  Just last Wednesday a judge said that they would not return the boys to Josh until he underwent a psycho-sexual evaluation that had to do with something they found on his computer.

The court had worries about Josh Powell and apparently so did Susan Powell’s parents.  Susan’s dad Chuck Cox said…in an interview with People Magazine that they had told authorities they were worried about what Josh might do. He stated,  ”We stated our fear many times, that if he was feeling desperate, that he would possibly kill himself and the boys, that this kind of thing could happen.” He added, “If he felt there was no way out, that he wouldn’t let anyone else have them. They were possessions to him.”

But apparently there was nothing more the judge – at that point – could do.

“They were all aware of our fears – that he would take a cowardly way out,” Chuck Cox said.

Do you think there was anything more the court could have done?

I think its a bunch of BS that the court couldn’t do anything else couldn’t they do further investigation? Couldn’t they take the supervised visits outside of the home in a designated meeting spot so he wouldn’t be able to rig something to explode like this? Couldn’t they provide a protection order until the children were old enough to decide for themselves if they wanted to see him? Something anything I understand they were his children too and he like any good father wanted to be part of their lives, but this is too extreme. Even if you were desperate wouldn’t you try harder to make a life for your children and not take their lives from them? If you were so desperate why not ask for help? If you did ask and were unable to get help ask from somewhere different be honest tell them that you are afraid you’ll do something like this. If you still don’t get help then go ahead take the coward’s way out but don’t make that decision for your children. I still feel there should have been something someone could have done this should not have happened.
