Talk Like a Pirate Day: 6 Things to Do Today Besides Talking Like a Pirate!

Talk Like a Pirate Day!

September 19th is National Talk Like a Pirate Day, a day where we are all invited to incorporate pirate speak into our every day vernacular. A day where we can sprinkle “argh,” “avast,” and “make him walk the plank,” into our conversations.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of  the International “Talk Like a Pirate Day,” but the day was actually created in 1995 by Oregon’s John Baur (Ol’ Chumbucket) and Mark Summers (Cap’n Slappy) as sort of an inside joke. Then writer Dave Barry got wind of their made up “holiday,” and wrote about it in his column in 2002 and “Talk Like a Pirate Day” took off.

While the gist of the day is just to talk like a pirate, there are plenty of other pirate fun stuff to do – check out our suggestions to get the most of your own “Talk Like a Pirate Day” right here:
