Teenagers Affected by Sandy Sing, "We Are Never, Ever, Ever Getting Back Our Power" (Video)carolyncastiglia
Today is Day 13 without power for many people in New York City, New Jersey and Long Island. As of 12:30 p.m., approximately 3,900 customers in New York City and Westchester County remain without electrical service, according to a press release. ConEd says its goal is “to restore power by the end of the weekend to virtually all customers who were affected by Hurricane Sandy and whose equipment can accept service.” According to the AP, about 20,000 customers in New Jersey are still without power, and on Long Island, “About 130,000 of its customers still didn’t have power Sunday, LIPA said, not including the homes and businesses that were too damaged.”
Two of the many customers still without power in Long Island are the Perota sisters, who decided to entertain themselves in the cold and dark by writing this great parody of Taylor Swift’s hit “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.” They’ve changed the lyrics of the chorus to “We are never, ever, ever getting back our power,” and written really clever verses as well. Not only that, but their flashlight-lit performance shines a spotlight on just how vulnerable the tri-state area is to this kind of disaster. As animator Mike Rauch of The Rauch Brothers put it, “I love this video and these girls. It’s really funny and shows how people going through hard times are still able to keep their spirits up. But the song also does a great job explaining some of the problems people are facing out here, and is a window into a really sad, tragic moment in history.” Video after the jump.
I hope you get your power back today, girls!
