The Growth of Social Media

My first forays into “social media” started in chat rooms on AOL waaaay back in 1995 (I’m old, yo). I also hung out in chat rooms in Prodigy, proving I’m actually even OLDER than old. I spent a fair amount of time doing chats, list serves, and emails back in the early (mainstream) days.

I dropped offline for the early days of Yahoo (I was in early sobriety, had other stuff to focus on) and jumped right back into the fray by 1998 or so, but I didn’t have a home computer until 2002 (I know, can you believe it?).  By then my love affair with social was on, and I leaped into the blogging world in early 2004, and it’s been crazy ever since.

But enough about me.

Heh.

There is no doubt that social media has exploded, particularly since Facebook went “public.” But how did it all happen? Well, luckily, Search Engine Journal has put together a beautiful infographic for us. Enjoy!
