The Only Airline Safety Video Everyone Will Actually Watch

As the official airline of “Middle Earth,” New Zealand Airline’s new four-minute safety video features, well, hobbits, making it simultaneously the most watchable and most geektastic airline safety video in history.

The safety video, titled “An Unexpected Briefing,” is inspired by director Sir Peter Jackson’s film interpretation of the Lord of the Rings series, and ties into the Nov. 28 world premiere of The Hobbit.

The video features cameo performances by Mr. Jackson and Kiwi actor Dean O’Gorman, who plays Dwarf Fili. Two great-grandsons of Hobbit author J.R.R. Tolkien, Mike and Royd Tolkien, also make an appearance.

The video has gone completely viral, racking up millions of hits on YouTube in only three days.
