The Real Cost of Teen Pregnancy: New Ads Warn Kids Having Kids About the Implication on their Wallet (PHOTOS)

No matter how much love there is between a couple of teens, the statistics about teen pregnancy don’t bode well for their future or that of their kids — if they have them while they’re still teens, that is. It’s hard enough having kids when you’re in your 20s, 30s and 40s and are married with a good job and a place of your own to live.

New York City’s Human Resources Administration (HRA) is concerned that teens having unprotected sex are thinking not at all about the consequences beyond, say, getting pregnant or contracting an STD. Children are for life, and they don’t come cheap.

So the HRA has launched a new teen pregnancy prevention campaign to show “the high costs teen pregnancy can have for both teen parents and their children.” Instead of preaching to teens about their emotional and physical well-being in the face of becoming a young parent, the ads slap them with the reality on their wallet — both for themselves and their offspring.

Will the reality of the financial burden of becoming a teen parent hit home before they risk getting pregnant? Take a look and see if you think this ad campaign could be effective:
