It’s New Year’s resolution time, people. You may have starting thinking about yours already, or you might be rolling your eyes at the idea (although I bet you’re mulling over one that’s secretly tucked away, even if you don’t want to make it official).
It’s not just a silly exercise. The end of the year is a good time for reflection and setting intentions for what’s next. Maybe you feel like you’ve been a rock start parent, but in the process, you’ve let your personal life (remember that) slip. Or you’ve made strides in your career but feel disconnected from your kids?
We thought we’d get the ball rolling with each of our Strollerderby blogger’s own personal new years resolutions. You’re going to see a few themes here, because we’re all parents, and we’ve all got a streak of perfectionism in us. Take a peak, and also check out Babble’s Top 25 New Year’s Resolutions for 2011:
Strollerderby bloggers’ personal resolutions:
Sierra: Focus. Seriously: I want to give my kids more attention in 2011.
Madeline: Always the same: no more yelling, no more yelling, no moRE YELLING … I SAID NO MORE YELLING!
Robin: My main new years parenting resolution is so mundane: make at least one meal a week where we all eat the same thing! (not mundane, Robin, ambitious and important!)
Meredith: Step away from the Blackberry. And the computer. Particularly when my daughter is around.
John: Especially with child #5 on the way? PATIENCE. my goodness, am I shooting for more patience in 2011.
Danielle: Work less when my kids are home and be fully present in everything we do together as a family.
Carolyn: I’d like to swear less in front of my kid. I’d also like to lose 30 pounds. Neither one is gonna happen.
Me: I’m going to take a cue from one of Babble’s Top 25 New Year’s Resolutions here: Let my son get bored. We’ve got way too much on the schedule — spend more unscripted time where he gets to come up with his own ideas about what to do and where to go. Hello forts made from living room couch cushions.
