Jessica Ashley is not just a mom – she’s a single mom. And she represents single moms quite well at her site, Sassafrass, where she chronicles her life with Lil E, the seven-year-old boy who’s just as likely to rock a Star Wars costume as he is to bust out a Taekwondo move. Most of her well-written entries are dedicated to life with her little man, but even the ones that aren’t are written with profound sensitivity, like “She Was Like Autumn”, a tribute to the recently deceased mother of her “Not Boyfriend.” Readers get the feeling that it’s that exact sensitivity with which she’s raising her little boy that makes Lil E quite a lucky fellow, indeed.
