Top Parenting Stories of 2012

Newtown, Connecticut.

It’s that time of year, when best of and highlight lists dominate the media and Babble is no exception.

2012 has been nothing if not a banner year for news-making parents, specifically moms.

From “Tan Mom” to a mother who detailed her daughter’s weight problems in Vogue, as Meredith Carroll reports, moms have been making major headlines this year.

But it isn’t just moms dominating the headlines. Parenting issues got some serious attention on TV and the internet this year.

In fact, 2012 was a a particularly rough year for moms and dads. Maybe that’s because the Newtown shootings are still fresh on our minds or maybe it’s because it seems like the year has been filled with child-related scandals.

From the Newtown tragedy and the nanny who killed two sweet children in her care to the retirement of the voice of Elmo amid sexual abuse allegations and the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse case, it’s been a tough year.

However, there have been some bright points including some very exciting births and pregnancies.
