Twinkies Back In Stores By July

twinkiesAs if America would just let Twinkies become a thing of the past…

Your children can continue enjoying the same snack cake your mom packed in your lunch. Just in time to accompany you to the lake or the beach or your 4th of July picnic, Twinkies are back.

As NBC reports, Twinkies will hit store shelves nationally by late July.  Michael Cramer, executive vice president of Hostess Brands LLC says that after Twinkies, all of the classic Hostess snack brands will return, including Hostess Donettes and some of the snack cakes.

All 36 Hostess Brands, Inc., plants shut down in November after a massive strike and negotiations broke down with the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union. Hostess was forced to sell its assets, including Twinkies, Cup Cakes, Ho Hos, Zingers, Ding Dongs and Suzy Q’s, which were purchased in April by Apollo Global Management and Metropoulos & Co.

The new company, Hostess Brands, LLC, that will resume with the Twinkie making, although not without competition. Flowers Foods, Inc., which purchased some of Hostess’ other assets, has its own Twinkies lookalikes. Its Blue Bird brand sells Bingles while its Mrs. Freshley label sells Dreamies cream-filled cakes. In fact, a host of Twinkie copycats have popped up in the wake of the massive Hostess liquidation. But I think we all know they can’t compare with the real Twinkie.

And Twinkie groupies who’ve been hoarding the cake all these months won’t be disappointed. The new Hostess company will not change any ingredients.

“Everything will be as delicious and fattening as it always was,” Cramer said.

And there was much rejoicing.
