Using Stumble Upon for Increased Blog TrafficAlli Worthington
Have you ever noticed a huge surge in traffic on a certain post on your blog? Gone rushing to check your stats and noticed that someone had stumbled your post and suddenly you were getting hundreds, if not thousands of hits?
Stumble Upon is a great way to increase blog traffic but there are some things you have to know as a blogger. Wondering how to use stumble upon? Let me show you a few tips I’ve picked up over the years.
Use Stumble Upon Often
Don’t just stumble once or twice a month and then expect to have any power with it. Using it regularly is a great way to increase the overall impact of stumbling for traffic building. Just think if it’s something you share on Facebook, or retweet, you might want to stumble it also.
Mix Up Discoveries and Likes
Don’t just stumble pages that have already been discovered, but take time to “discover” or stumble for the first time, posts and articles in your favorite topic areas. No one knows the super secret recipe for ultimate stumble success of course. However it seems to me that discoveries that get a few thumbs up right after I’ve discovered them, are the ones that get picked up the most.
Stumble a Variety of Domains
Don’t make all your discoveries and thumbs up from the same domain they figure out pretty quickly that you’re just trying to game the system and self-promote. Don’t be that girl. Stumble wants to see that y’all are finding great content from all over the web so stumble a bunch of different websites. I try not to stumble the same domain two days in a row, or more than once out of every 12 or so stumbles. This is a great time to share the love, help out your friends and discover some great content around the web.
Write Reviews When You Stumble
Stumbles seem to have more weight when you add a review with them. So take 30 seconds and mention why you like the post or article. Add your tags and category and that will help too!
Use the Correct Category and Add Appropriate Tags When you Discover a Page and Submit it to StumbleUpon.
Nothing is worse than writing an amazing tutorial on how to take a perfect picture and someone submits it to StumbleUpon in the ‘Health’ category. Everyone who wants to see articles about health will see the photography tutorial and probably not spend an hour clicking around the site discovering new awesome articles. Tag it well so StumbleUpon can send articles to the people who are interested in the topic.
Seriously y’all you can spend 5-10 minutes a day stumbling great content and make a huge difference in how the page views respond. Upload the StumbleUpon toolbar to make it super simple to give posts a thumbs up as you visit other blogs. Be sure to find me on StumbleUpon and say hello!
