Vintage summer! In the 40's, there was only one hat for every four women!

Summer is in full swing, which for us nowadays means wearing hats and sunscreen and probably not smoking or in many cases even drinking soda. But people’s lives weren’t quite so health-oriented back in the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s when ads for “tanning oil” and photos of women smoking cigarettes poolside were totally commonplace. Check out these cool vintage ads from the mid-20th century featuring gorgeous one-piece bathing suits (hello, remember those?!), classic cars and lots and lots of leg:
