Say what you will about the French, but they look out for their own. Vaginas, that is.
It’s not a topic usually appropriate in mixed company, but women who have given birth aren’t strangers to the fact that things down there sometimes just aren’t the same afterwards.
Well, France knows that, and they’re doing something about it.
According to Mommyish (via Slate), federal dollars in France cover rééducation périnéale for women, which includes vaginal exercise to the tune of 10 to 20 free classes to help “retrain the muscles of the pelvic floor, including the vagina.” It is described as one of the “cornerstones of French postnatal care.” That, and, apparently, a cheese course in the hospital as well as no paper gowns.
Just imagine: You give birth and besides the 6-week postpartum checkup to ensure your vagina is OK because of what it has just been through, someone looking out for what it faces in the future?
Instead of being preyed upon by web advertisers looking to give your vagina a facelift, it’s a nice idea to think that others are looking out for the entire health of your vagina postpartum.
