Why Saving Those Magical Family Memories is So Important

One of Those Memories I Wanna Keep Forever

I’ve been rather melancholy lately when spending quality time with my 6-year-old daughter. We laugh, we joke, we learn, we play, we hug, we cuddle, we kiss, but I’ve been haunted by the reality that all this one-on-one mommy time is fleeting. My little girl is growing up and odds are she’ll soon prefer hanging out with her friends and may or may not become completely boy crazy, leaving middle-aged mom in the dust.  I only have the one child, so this crucial kid time is a one-time thing; I only get to go on this amazing journey once.

One thing I’ve realized is that all these amazing memories we’re making may someday fade from my mind. That’s where having a memory keeper, in the form of a kick-ass camcorder, is so crucial.

I don’t want to forget these amazing times and I feel like I have to make up for lost time. Enter the Sony Handycam, the newest member of our family. I recently wrote about my crush on “Sam,” and now his presence has become even more prominent. The camcorder is so lightweight and small that it can fit easily in my purse and can come along with us anywhere and everywhere. We’ve recorded plays, playdates, swim classes, soccer games, ice cream outings, the moon, cooking, car rides, and some awesome footage of our wood floor.  Yeah, we’ve been showing “Sam” a good time.

We’ve all gotten involved. My husband and I are the main videographers, but my daughter who loves anything with buttons has become pretty adept at capturing our family memories, although her choice of subject matter is something we need to work on (I wisely deleted the footage of my exit from the shower and about five minutes of footage of my left foot).

This capturing of family memories has become a family affair, something we all know the importance of with bonus points of being fun. So “Sam” he’s now part of the family, and you know, my daughter never wanted a sibling, but this one, at least he’s got a really good memory.
