Will ‘Mama Drama" Bring It Like ‘Jersey Shore? VH1 Sure Hopes So

Mama Drama

They look like a wholesome bunch

You’re a mom, right? Or you know a mom? Or you have a mom? OK. Now. Would you ever appear on a reality TV show? OK, maybe you would. But would you ever appear on one that’s been created by the same people who brought you Jersey Shore? Right. That’s what I thought.

One of MTV’s Jersey Shore executive producers has created a new series about “party-loving moms who like to hit the clubs with their daughters,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Because something good will come out of five “youth-obsessed” moms who live in the same house as their daughters. And party together.

The show promises “emotional fireworks.” No duh.

“Part of [Mama Drama] speaks to a new cultural definition of age with women in their 40s and 50s no longer constrained by rules about how they need to dress or act,” said a VH1 programming executive. “In some cases, this allows them to forge strong bonds with their daughters and true friendships. In other cases, they cross the line and forget their role as a parent and a role model.”

The show’s creator argues the subject is “something that needs to be explored.”

Technically, so do the contents under my older daughter’s bed, but that doesn’t mean it needs to be televised.

Look for the premiere on Jan. 1 on VH1. Because there’s no better way to ring in the new year than with a trashy new show that makes you feel better about your relationship with your daughter, or your mother, or with anyone, really.
