Next time you drop your kid off at daycare, take a look around at all the diaper-clad rugrats: over half of them will be blowing out birthday candles in the year 2109.
According to a study published today in the Lancet medical journal, babies born today in well-to-do countries will regularly age to 100-plus.
Why? Advances in medicine, both in detection and treatment of illnesses are the main factor. Add to that the steady decline in smoking and you’ve got the makings of a huge geriatric community in the 22nd century.
