In an unimaginable and horrific crime, a Kentucky woman is being accused of killing her pregnant friend, and then taking the fetus. Kathy Michelle Coy, 33, is the Kentucky woman currently being held for murdering 21-year-old mom-to-be Jamie Stice and then kidnapping her unborn son.
On Wednesday, Coy showed up at a Bowling Green hospital with a newborn boy she claimed to have given birth to. The hospital officials were immediately suspicious and notified authorities. After questioning Coy, investigators searched a nearby wooded area where they found the body of Jamie Stice.
The County Coroner said the preliminary cause of death was “multiple homicidal sharp force injuries” but did not elaborate beyond that.
The women met on Facebook after Coy ‘friended’ the pregnant Stice and told her she could help the mom-to-be get baby clothes from an agency where she worked. Coy also told Stice that she was also pregnant in an attempt to put her plan in action.
According to AOL News, Ashely Nicole, a close friend of Stice, said the plan was conceived long ago:
“She made Jamie believe she was pregnant when she wasn’t,” Nicole said. “She had stolen someone else’s ultrasound pictures back in October, and if you count that up, that’s seven months. I really believe she had this planned out from the beginning and needed the right person to do this stuff to.”
The baby boy was due on May 24th, and while he is premature, he is said to be “doing well” and is still at the hospital.
Nicole said friends are holding a memorial baby shower this Saturday in hopes of taking up a collection for the funeral costs as well as gathering baby items for the newborn. Nicole says Stice was eagerly awaiting the baby’s arrival:
“She was really excited to become a mom. She was really looking forward to it and really wanted to meet him,” Nicole said. “But now he is not able to have a mother, and all we can do is show him pictures.”
Authorities have speculated that the fetus was forcibly removed from the mother’s body but will not make any official declarations. The baby is being tested to determine if he is the biological son of Stice.
Coy is currently being held without bond on murder and kidnapping charges.
