Yahoo News D.C. Bureau Chief Fired For On-Air Comment "Romneys Party With Black People Drowning"

Screenshot from Video during which the comment is heard

If ever there was a time that you wished the mic wasn’t on, I suspect that Yahoo News D.C. Bureau Chief, David Chalian is wishing last night was that time.

According to published reports in The Atlantic Wire which were updated throughout the day, the voice you hear in the background of this video is that of Chalian.  ABC and Yahoo News apparently explained that the two news organizations have developed a partnership for digital content which explains why you see the ABC logo, but hear the voice now identified as Chalian’s in the background.

In the video, you hear a man say, “They (the Romneys) are not concerned at all.  They are happy to have a party with black people drowning.”

Oh. My.

Now, according to that same Atlantic Wire article, which updated multiple times today, that voice does belong to that D.C. Bureau Chief, David Chalian.  And he apparently no longer has a job with Yahoo News.

To me, the statement is racially charged. Others think it was intended as a joke. Mitt Romney claimed his comment last week in Michigan about his ‘birth’ was a joke, but many thought otherwise. Are we losing our sense of humor when it comes to politics or is some of this stuff just not funny?

Strollerderby’s Carolyn Castiglia thinks it is possible to tackle an election with humor.

What do you think?

It seems we are seeing a lot of racial, hot-button and charged language finger pointing coming from both sides of the aisle. In addition to this Yahoo reporter losing his job, just last night, there were accusations of racism at the Republican National Convention for which the RNC released a statement.
