Your Daily Cry: Military Dad Surprises Daughter at College Basketball Practice

Staff Sgt. Barry Williams hugs his daughter Lanicia for the first time in 10 months.

I will never, ever get tired of these videos. Watching military parents come home safely to their children makes me cry every single time, and I will never tire of it.

In this video, U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Barry Lawrence, who just returned from Afghanistan, surprises his daughter Lanicia, whom he hasn’t seen in 10 months. Lanicia plays basketball for the Missouri Western State University Griffons.

Staff Sgt. Lawrence has served several tours overseas, starting when Lanicia was a little girl. This return is particularly special, because this was the last overseas tour for soldier, who is nearing retirement.

I’ve seen a lot of videos of parents coming home to elementary school-aged kids, and most of them involve some screaming and jumping. Somehow the silent tears of this college-aged young woman seeing her dad are even more powerful.
