Katy Perry and an 11-Year-Old Autistic Girl Will Make You Cry Your Whole Face OffJulianna Miner
Usually, I just write about things that are funny. This video is not funny, and I should warn you that it made me ugly cry so hard that my kids looked alarmed as terrifying black mascara tears rained down my face. But it’s the best 8 minutes and 34 seconds you’ll spend on the internet all day, I promise.
The video features a performance from Comedy Central’s “Night of Too Many Stars: America Comes Together for Autism Programs”. The event was hosted by Jon Stewart and is raising money for autism programs, schools, and services all over the US.
The clip shows an amazing 11-year-old girl, Jodi Piazza, who was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 2. As you see in the video, Jodi was able to benefit from the kinds of programs, schools and therapies the “Night of Too Many Stars” is hoping to help. She’s singing here with Katy Perry and together they sound just… amazing.
You go, Jodi. You’re so [gulp, muffled sob] beautiful and talented! And you go, Jodi’s parents! I’m hugging you right now from far away, and it’s starting to get awkward because I don’t want to let go because I love you.
AND DAMN YOU, KATY PERRY. You are not supposed to make me cry. But you’re awesome right now, so I forgive you.
“Night of Too Many Stars” airs Sunday, October 21 at 8/7c on Comedy Central.
