10 Reasons Why Cats Are Better Than Dogs

By Devan McGuinness |

Yes, I am probably biased toward cats. I have already admitted that I am dangerously close to being a ‘crazy cat lady,’ but I think it’s for good reason — there is just way too much awesome about cats.

Growing up, I had both dogs and cats around, and I have always loved cats far more than dogs. There has been this age-long feud between cat and dog lovers over which is the superior pet, and I will always and forever answer that with CAT.

Why Cats Are Better Than Dogs

You Don't Have to Walk Them

Unlike dogs who need to be walked outside, cats don't make you go out 2-3x a day when it's too hot or too cold.

I love all animals and always had Cats and Dogs. However, though I love all animals my preference is the Cat. They are independent, very clean, don’t have bad breath, don’t slobber and if you need to leave for a few days they don’t mind being left alone as long as you leave extra boxes of clean litter and extra food and water. You might get a cold shoulder when you come back home, but they get over it…LOL

I love both cats and dogs, though for different reasons. I grew up being more of a “dog person” by far, but have since discovered the charms and advantages of being owned by a cat as well. Enjoyed your article, and I agree with much of it. However … as far as cats being quiet … you must have never had a Siamese? LOL I have the SWEETEST most WONDERFUL Siamese mix rescue, and I love her to pieces, but when she wants something (usually a door opened) she can be LOUD in her meows. I have a German Shepherd too, and he only barks when something’s up, maybe once a week or less. The cat usually wants a door open in the middle of the night. For quietness … I think the dog wins out in my case! :)

I think I lost out on the opportunity to become a dog person in 1967 when my mom’s beagle ripped up my arm in a nasty bite. Mom decided I needed a safer pet and thankfully, didn’t know much about cats. I still remember that first kitten, an all black fuzzer named Shadow, and all the cats who have shared my life since then. Today my home is graced by three cats, an all black tom (also named Shadow,) a solid gray diva named Kaitlyn, (a serious daddy’s girl) and a year old trouble maker named Jinx who seems to have no fear of anything, except when Shadow’s in a bad mood. I couldn’t imagine my life without them but I do have make an amendment on those ten reasons, about cats not taking up time with need for attention. Kaitlyn not only needs my attention, she demands it and if I don’t pay attention fast enough she’ll grab my hand and pull it to her. Like I said, she’s a daddy’s girl and a diva.

I love this article! Cats are awesome! I love both of my fur babies. And contrary to popular belief, cats do come when called…at least everyone I’ve ever had does/did. I like dogs but I don’t want one in my house. No matter how well they are trained, they still have accidents on the floor. Mine have never crapped on my floor. And dog drool and wet dog smell are gross. My cats get a bath once a year and they never stink. I will always be a cat person! I really love that pic of the cats leaning on the arm rest of the couch. Too funny!
