20 Pets Doing Chores: So Helpful! (Sort Of.)

Sure, we all know that pets can be helpful. Even the laziest dog will pitch in by eating the crumbs off the floor, and most cats will at least attempt to catch mice. But much of what they do to help out has gone unnoticed…until now.

Here are 20 pets doing chores, being entirely kinda helpful. I even included some photos of my cat Leia, who is actually helfpul, and my lazy cat Luke, who is helpful in the sense that so far he hasn’t succeeded in causing my death by tripping me.

Okay, fine: part of the lawn. A really, really small part. But probably I'll have the whole thing done by the end of summer.

This is my cat Leia. She didn't actually line up all the things, but she was pretty agreeable about lining up with all the things, which made my autistic son really, really happy.

  • I helped with your kid’s science project. 19 of 21

Leia helped my daughter with her science fair project, which looked at whether organic or non-organic fertilizer made catnip grow better. (Note: the organic fertilizer made it grow bigger than the non-organic, but the tiny non-fertilized "control" plant was the tastiest, according to Leia.)

  • I kept the entire couch warm for you all at once. 20 of 21

This is my lazy cat Luke Skywalker. He is poorly named, because he has neither the energy nor the selflessness to help the Rebel Alliance, let alone get up off the couch. In fact, Luke's goal in life is to take up as much of the couch as possible.

  • I lay on the carpet and got hair all over it, so vacuuming would feel more satisfying for you. 21 of 21

    This is Luke's "interested" face.
