Canine Freestyle is a fascinating sport that combines obedience and handling with music and dance.
Musical Freestyle pairs choreographed moves and handling with music. It is basically owners dancing with their dogs in a carefully orchestrated manner that displays creativity and training. The related heelwork-to-music freestyle incorporates obedience to a greater degree, and emphasizes non-standard obedience movements. Both involve costumes, are entertaining to watch, and can show an impressive amount of teamwork and control. I think it shows just how much you can do with good training and bonding with your dog. I would love to try it with my corgis.
Below is a canine freestyle video that I just love. In it, the handler and dog perform You’re The One That I Want from Grease. You can also learn more about canine freestyle at the World Canine Freestyle Organization.
