My 2.5 year old cat Ariel is proving to be quite the cat protector! I am currently 14 weeks pregnant with my fourth child and while Ariel is relatively new to our family, joining at the beginning of the year, she’s taken on the role of baby protector.
My cats who passed away would always be very protective of me when I was pregnant. Often before I knew I was pregnant, Puff would follow me around, would lay on my stomach, and sit in the washroom with me when I would take a bath. He becoming my constant shadow was a big signal that something was growing within me. He was amazing to me the entire pregnancy and when he passed away as we were trying to conceive baby number four, I worried that I would miss out on that adorable companionship.
Ariel is one of the most affectionate cats I have ever met and she’s realized that something is different with me and has begun to be the baby belly cat protector as well. I find it so cute that she perches herself on my stomach whenever she can and seems to protect it from all imaginary things. With being a new cat in our family, I wasn’t sure if she would pick up on it, but she totally has and it makes me feel so good.
I am looking forward to seeing how she handles the new baby when it comes. She seems totally unfazed by the noise and chaos in the house with our three kids so I don’t doubt that she will handle it like a pro.
Did you find your cat being extra affectionate and protector when you were pregnant?
