Twelve Dog Friendly Beaches To Help You Celebrate Summer!

photo

Living thirty minutes from the beach with three dogs (small, medium, and extra large – have you met them?) can be torture sometimes because here in Los Angeles, most beaches are NOT dog friendly. {Perhaps if people followed my advice on Poop-Control we could knock out two birds with one stone, but whatever….}

So I thought I’d do us all a favor and put together a national list of Dog Friendly Beaches! I’ve come up with twelve here to start, but if you know of any I missed I implore you to leave them in the comments and I’ll happily keep updating this post. Look out summer, we’re about to let the dogs out.

    Dog Beach in Ocean Beach CA is like canine heaven. On any given day Dogs, Humans, and Frisbees alike crowd this stretch of San Diego beach.

    Pups on leashes are welcome to stroll the beach with their owners, and a number of local pet friendly rentals will make bringing your dog along to Nags Head a snap.

    Fort De Soto Park Paw Playground in Tierra Verde, FL is a quarter-mile stretch of beach where dogs can frolic freely with two fenced in size-sorted dog parks just off the sand.

  • Hunting Island, SC 6 of 12

    Dog Friendly for beach front hikes and camping to boot, Hunting Island is a dog lover's dream. Places like this make me want to move South. (Or, to the south. I'm pretty sure SC is basically just vertically across the US from SoCal.)

  • Brooklyn, NY 7 of 12

    For New Yorkers, Dyker Beach in Brooklyn is as pet friendly as they come with both beach running and a dog park just off the sand. If you're out on Long Island, Montauk Beaches allow dogs as well.

  • Drake’s Island, ME 8 of 12

    Maine is chock full of dog-friendly beaches, and Drake's Island may be one of it's best. Dogs frolic with their owners all season long.

    Nordhouse Dunes in Michigan is a great spot to explore and camp with your pooch.

    Fishermans Cove Conservation Area is one of the top dog-friendly beaches in the US. Known as \"Dog Beach\" to locals, leashed pets are welcome with their owners all year round. (Asbury Park Beach is another great NJ Dog-Friendly destination.)

    South Padre National Seashore is a great spot for Fido to frolic in the sand in the great state of Texas.

  • Santa Monica, CA 12 of 12
    PalisadesPark

    Palisades Park is a great place for LA locals to soak in the beach with their pups without that pesky sand. While plenty of pups can be found trotting down the boardwalk in Venice (whether or not that's city sanctioned remains in question) Palisades Park provides a great stretch for a beachfront jog with easy parking and pet-friendly dining nearby.
