It seems an Irish cat named Clara with a litter of kittens of her own has adopted herself some ducklings, and incorporated them into her family unit cuddle puddle. Which doesn’t sound THAT strange, until you consider that cats are programmed to be predators of small fuzzy things, particularly those that tweet, quack, squeak and chirp. Like, umm, ducklings. Yeah.
Still, the video – taken by videographer Maura Cunningham – is pretty convincing:
And though I may sound like a grumpy naysayer, that video – adorable as it is – makes me genuinely nervous. I can’t help but wonder what will happen once Clara emerges from her maternal haze and realizes, HAY GUYZ, THESE YELLOW THINGS ARE FOOD! I have a hard time imagining that instinct won’t kick in at some point, leaving a shower of yellow feathers and sadness in its wake. I mean, has “Duck Hunt” taught us nothing?
Am I the only one who thinks this can’t possibly end well?
