A Michigan Great Dane by the name of Zeus has been named the Tallest Dog Ever by Guinness World Records.
Measuring 44 inches from foot to withers (the withers is the ridge between the shoulder blades, and the standard way to measure a dog or a horse), Zeus is about the same size as the average donkey. Standing on his hind legs, he reaches 7 feet, 4 inches, towering over his owner, Denise Doorlag.
Ms. Doorlag told Guinness World Records that the 155-pound dog goes through a 30 pound bag of dog food every two weeks, and weighs enough that if he accidentally steps on her foot, he leaves a bruise.
“Zeus is an awesome dog,” Ms. Doorlag said. ”The only downside is that everything costs more; the food, medicines, transport. We had to get a van to be able to transport him.”
Naturally, a dog this size attracts plenty of attention when her family takes Zeus out.
“The most common thing people ask is: ‘Is that a dog or a horse?’ and ‘Where’s his saddle?’” Ms. Doorlag said.
