I recently started a serious workout regime after taking about, oh….a year and a half off. But last summer I was skinny and this summer, I’m well…less so, and it’s that time of year where you kind of have to poop or get off the pot, y’know? A dear friend of mine is a Power Pilates instructor, and I lost boatloads of weight doing her classes after I had my daughter, so it was easy to figure out what I wanted to do.
Of course…the last time I took one of Lisa’s classes I was 40 lbs lighter and strong as an
ox large housecat, and now I’m…y’know, the opposite of that. Plus, I live in Los Angeles and I’m a writer so I’m in a not-so-early morning class filled with actors whose names you know before they tell you, models whose bodies make you want to die, super slick movie executives, and also possibly one mayor. So excuse me for wanting to run home in tears when I caught my reflection in the mirror, red with sweat struggling to maintain my balance on the reformer while holding a deep lunge. It wasn’t pretty. It wasn’t inspiring.
But then I saw this video of a Walrus doing sit-ups to Survivor’s “Eye Of The Tiger” (aka one of the best songs ever) and somehow I found the strength to go on.
