It was 1988 when I became fascinated by Bret Michaels, lead singer of the rock group, Poison. His ripped jeans, bandannas and big blue eyes were emblazoned on the wall in my room in a three-foot poster that I adored. Later on as adult, I came to learn about his struggle with diabetes (diagnosed at age 6) and all the work he did for the cause. (I’ll intentionally skip over the Rock of Love era.) Then he showed up on Celebrity Apprentice and I watched him endure a medical crisis that played out on live TV, including a hole in the heart, stroke and a brain hemorrhage. (Unbelievably, he went on to win the show, and a lot of money for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.)
After many prayers and a clean bill of health, I also discovered, along with America, that he is way more than a just pretty face, an incredible fighter and a rock god (OK, a little over the top there); he is also one strong business mind wrapped up in a whole lot of doo-rags!
Best recent news? He just launched his own line of pet accessories in Pet Smart, complete with doggie doo-rags, called (what else), the Pets Rock Collection! The line includes vinyl boots, leather collars, plush toys shaped like guitars and Michaels’ signature, bandanas.
An animal lover, Michaels tested out his product line on his own two German shepherds, Diesel and Phoenix. He attests to the joy that his pets bring him:
“In life, they bring me a certain piece of mind. There’s a sense of unconditional love I get from my dogs — or, as crazy as it sounds, my rats — being around me.”
Here are just some accessories on sale at PetSmart:
