Last month, writing about the story of adorable little Billy the Chihuahua who was rescued by Humane Society worker, Adam Parascandola, was a highlight. You might recall that when Adam walked into a horrific North Carolina puppy mill, he immediately bonded with Billy.
Billy was found in malnourished in a cage with a lock that had rusted over from never being opened. It was heartbreaking and Billy suffered many from many medical conditions as a result of living a life of neglect. But Adam took him in and vowed to nourish and love him back to health.
So it is with a heavy heart that I write this post today. Over the holidays, Billy passed away suddenly from what was believed to be complications of his lifelong mistreatment.
The Human Society has created a Billy’s Legacy page, which is acquiring many condolences for the spirited lil pup.
Wayne Pacelle, President and CEO of The Humane Society of the United States summed it up best:
At this point, he becomes something of a timeless ambassador for what happens to dogs in puppy mills, memorialized in the video that features him. At the same time, his own happy spirit, despite his travails, reminds us of the capacity of animals to forgive and to love. We, as a species, can learn more than a thing or two from Billy about putting those principles into action.
Our hearts go out to Adam, Wayne, and everyone at the Humane Society who worked tirelessly to help Billy, and every other puppy mill victim like him. Please do what you can to help close down puppy mills. There are still many more suffering now the same way Billy did.
Please watch the heartfelt, personal message from Adam below.
