Fire fighters often rescue pets trapped in fires, even going so far as to give them CPR (to the best of their ability; lungs are configured differently in animals – parallel rather than side by side) and oxygen to help them recover from smoke inhalation.

Many people don’t realize this, but there are special oxygen masks for pet rescues, which you see in some of these shots, but not all. When your annual appeal for your local firehouse comes in the mail, send it back with a donation and earmark it for pet oxygen masks, if they don’t already have them onboard their ambulance or rescue trucks. Many firehouses and ambulance services are still largely volunteer and community funded.
