Last night, the first ever Internet Cat Video Festival was held at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Thousands of nominated videos were culled down into CATegories that included comedy, drama, animated, and documentary.
As part of the event, the Walker Art Center’s website was translated into “LOLCat speak.”
The fest also included “People’s Choice” videos that were voted on by the public. The winner of the Golden Kitty Award, Henri 2, Paw de Deux, was announced live at the festival.
The Walker Art Center estimated that about 10,000 people attended the outdoor screening, many of whom live-Tweeted the event. Although the center had recommended not bringing actual, live cats to the festival (it suggested bringing photos instead), it was evident from the #catvidfest Twitter hashtag that some cats showed up.
The blog Catsparella compiled some of the funniest tweets of the event:
You can see the rest of Catsparella’s picks for best tweets here. If you couldn’t make it to the event and would like to re-create it in your own home, you can watch the entire playlist on YouTube here. Below, we’re sharing the top People’s Choice videos!
